The Twelve Dancing Princesses
The Twelve Dancing Princesses was a Game Jam project in 2016. It was based on a concept I'd had for a while: the fairy tale of The Twelve Dancing Princesses, except a space opera.
The story focuses more on the princesses, their motivations, and their relationship with their father.
The game goes through three levels, all of them played from the perspective of the Old Soldier.
For the jam I provided concept art, game sprites and illustrations, as well as writing, music and editing sound effects. The work featured below was created over the span of two days.
Concepts
12 Dancing Princesses has always been a project meant to help me challenge myself in designing alien characters. I enjoyed the effort of making each princess unique while still thinking of them as siblings.
The eldest princess (1) is meant to look the least like their father, while the youngest (12) is meant to look the most like him. It's something that creates tension between them, since 1 dislikes the reminder of her father and 12 is too young to understand what her father does wrong.

Illustrations
The illustrations below were for an introduction to the game explaining the concept of the story.
The king realizes his daughters are disappearing every night. He offers the hand of a princess to whoever can find out where they're going, but anyone who fails will be executed. He starts running out of people willing to take the deal, until the Old Soldier arrives.
